Privacy Statement 

This Privacy Statement applies to the website of DAMA International (www.dama.org

This statement relates to our privacy practices in connection with this website. We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of other websites. Some technical terms used in this statement are explained at the end of this page. 

General statement 

DAMA International fully respects your right to privacy and will not collect any personal information about you on this website without your clear permission. Any personal information that you volunteer will be treated with the highest standards of security and confidentiality, strictly in accordance with recognised international standards and good practices.  

DAMA International has adopted the EU Data Protection Directive 95/46/EC as a reference standard for our Data Privacy Policies. As such we undertake that: 

  1. All personal data we process about you will be obtained and processed fairly 
  2. We will specify the purposes for processing your data 
  3. We will refrain from processing data for a purpose that is not compatible with the purposes for which we originally obtained your data 
  4. We will take all reasonable organisational and technical measures to protect your data from unauthorised access, disclosure, or alteration 
  5. We will put in place measures to ensure the data we hold about you is accurate, complete, and up to date
  6. We will not process data about you that is not relevant to the purposes for which we are gathering the data  
  7. We will retain your data for no longer than is necessary for the purposes for which we obtained it
  8. You have a right of access to your data, to have errors corrected, and to request it not be processed for certain purposes

Collection and use of personal information 

In general, DAMA International does not collect any personal data about you on this website, apart from information which you volunteer (for example by joining DAMA International, registering for events through the site, e-mailing us or by using our online feedback form). Where you do provide personal data, such as your name, postal address, or other contact details, we will use it for one or more of the following purposes: 

Join DAMA International 

When you join DAMA International we will process your name, address, and other information you provide to create your member profile, to communicate with you about events and activities organised by DAMA International, DAMA Chapters, or relevant events organised by DAMA partners. 

DAMA International does not share your data with our partners without your permission, but we will include information about relevant partner events in our communications to members. 

The data you provide when you join DAMA International will be used to manage and administer your membership of DAMA International, communicate with you about administrative matters related to your membership 

Developing our Chapter Network 

When you join DAMA International, you are asked to indicate what local DAMA Chapter you are a member of. This data will be used to include you in targeted communications to members of those Chapters that DAMA International may send out from time to time (e.g. to recognise a significant anniversary for the Chapter) or other administrative purposes related to the development of a sustainable and vibrant Chapter network.  

The data you provide when registering for DAMA International membership will NOT be shared with your local Chapter without your permission. Likewise, the data held about you by your local Chapter is not shared with DAMA International without your permission. 

If you do not indicate that you are already a member of a DAMA Chapter when you join DAMA International, we may use your contact address information provided to identify the nearest local DAMA Chapter to you and let you know that they are there and how to get in touch with them. 

From time to time we will analyse DAMA International membership data to identify countries, cities, or districts where we have a lot of members but no local Chapter and try to develop new local Chapters around those members. We won’t share your data with other people in your locality to do this but will engage with you to facilitate introductions and to support the establishment of, if not a new Chapter, then perhaps some new professional connections. 

Cross-border Data Transfers 

DAMA International is a US-based organisation. The DAMA.org site and database is hosted on servers in the European Union. 

From time to time DAMA staff and/or contractors based in a variety of jurisdictions may access personal data processed by DAMA International for administrative or technical support purposes. All such access is governed by contractual controls and internal DAMA International policies and procedures to prevent against unauthorised access.  

Web Beacons and Tracking Links 

Our website uses Facebook Social Plug-ins. When you visit a site with Social Plug-ins (recognizable by a white F on a blue tile or a thumb up sign) your browser establishes a direct connection to Facebook. The content of the Plug-in will be transferred to your browser and implemented into the website. Details of your interaction with our website is now transferred to Facebook. If you are logged on in Facebook during the visit on our website, Facebook adds this information to your Facebook profile.  

If you are interacting with one of the Social Plug-ins, e.g. make a comment; this information will also be transferred to Facebook. In addition, other personal information as your IP address, Browser and other parameter may be transferred to Facebook and stored there. 

 In case you do not wish such a data transfer, please log off in Facebook before you enter our website. 

 We cannot influence this data collection and data transfer by the Facebook Plug-ins. Requests  regarding data supplied via this website 

DAMA supports your right to access to the personal data we process about you. Your personal member profile data on the site is accessible to you at all times when you are logged into the site.  

On request, we will supply a copy of personal data about you that is held by DAMA International to you. To request a copy of your personal data, please email privacy@dama.org with the phrase “Access Request” in the subject line to help us identify and respond to such requests in a timely manner. You should include any personal identifiers which you supplied earlier via the website (e.g. DAMA membership ID, name, address, phone number, e-mail address). Your request will be dealt with as soon as possible and will take not more than 40 days to process. We may contact you at the email address registered as part of your member profile to validate and verify any access requests received. An administration fee may be charged. 

If you discover we hold inaccurate information about you, you can update that information yourself through the website or, in the instance that the data is in a section of the site that can only be amended by our Administrators, you can send a request to DAMA International to request the amendment. Please send all such requests to privacy@dama.org with the phrase “Correction Request” in the subject line. 

Complaints about data processed via the website 

If you are concerned about how personal data are processed via this website, please do not hesitate to bring such concerns to the attention of DAMA International via our Privacy Officer (privacy@dama.org). 

Collection and use of technical information 

Like most websites, DAMA International uses cookies to help make the site better and to support certain functions on the site.   We provide detailed information on our Cookies Statement page. 

We also log IP addresses and other technical data for the management of the site. This data will be used for technical support purposes, including but not limited to the investigation of any information security incidents that may occur. 

Disclosure of Data 

DAMA International does not share, sell, or otherwise disclose personal data of members processed via this site. 

Certain features of the site (e.g. the Speaker Bureau) require the publication of certain personal data with the permission of the member. 

DAMA International will, however, comply with any court order or other lawful request for access to data from Law Enforcement agencies. 

DAMA International will disclose any technical log data or other relevant data to law enforcement or other authorised agencies conducting investigations into any security breaches reported on this site.
