DAMA-I Strategic Direction - Focusing Effort and Resources

DAMA-I wishes to thank the DAMA Chapters and Members who invested their time to complete the 2023 Membership Survey.  Your requests and insights helped the DAMAI Board focus on the organization’s strategic and operational goals for 2024 and into the future.

Chapters and Members have asked DAMA-I to concentrate its efforts and resources on education, chapter support and communication.  Specifically, members feel that DAMA International should spend the majority of its time on supporting and servicing the chapters, updating the DMBOK, and providing opportunities for members to complete CDMP training and become certified. They see the key external areas where DAMA-I could help members is through its education and information services with an emphasis on the changing landscape of data management, data security, and the implications of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

To achieve these strategic goals, your DAMA-I Board had pledged to focus on the following:

  1.  DAMA-I will hire an Executive Director who, with Board input, will implement a long-term resource/staff plan to support Chapters and Individual Members.

  2.  The DAMA-I by-laws committee will update the current bylaws to include more Chapter and Individual representatives.  Specifically, the Board will be a blended body of both chapters and individuals who will elect the directors and officers. The new Bylaws will be vetted and voted on by the Chapters during the second half of 2024.

  3. Following the release of the DMBOK2.0 Revised Edition, which was introduced in March 2024, a significant amount of resources has been allocated for a DMBOK3.0 edition.  Work on 3.0 will begin by June 2024 with input from experts, individuals, and Chapters.  DAMA currently provides the DMBOK in various languages and is now exploring expanding its availability into additional languages.

  4. The CDMP will have new Specialty Exams added.  Existing exams will be updated to reflect the DMBOK2.0 Revised edition after Oct. 1, 2024.  Until then the CDMP exams will continue to be based on DMBOK2.0. DAMA-I has introduced a pilot project (June 2024) whereby Chapters that organize CDMP in-person exam events will receive $50 for each paid registration.

  5. Our CDMP certification provider, Robinson Ryan, has launched a new and improved exam platform.  The DAMA-I Board is exploring the delivery of the exams in a multi-language format.

Communication to the Chapters will be improved by the addition of frequent postings concerning DAMA-I Board activities to the dama.org website and through updates to the President’s Council  bulletins.
