    SUMMARY

We want to thank everyone who has reached out to us and offered to assist. Your assistance will become crucial in the following months as we keep our organisation running and continue with the good work of the last few years. There is much to be done and this will require many hands. If you have a specific area (maybe not on the BOD but in a committee\ team) in which you would like to work ( Mike 2.0, Data Management Dictionary, etc) please do not hesitate to let the team know at info@dama.org. These are projects that all need to move forward during 2018.

Dear DAMA Presidents, Chapter Officers and Members

It has been a couple of weeks since our last communication in which we advised that the DAMA I Board had notified of their intention to resign.

Elections must take place as soon as possible so that a new Board can step up and take over the reigns. With the current timing and elections not yet having been called for, it would see that a new Board will take over during August 2018. Please note the elections will be held in accordance with the current set of bylaws which can be viewed by clicking on this link: https://dama.org/sites/default/files/DAMA%20International%20Bylaws%202015-Oct%2021%20-%20v4%2020%20-%20Approved%20Sept%2017.pdf

The current composition of the DAMA I Board is Sue Geuens: President, Mark Humphries: Operations, Daragh OBrien:Privacy Officer and Peter Aiken: Past President with Nelson Goucher: Treasurer and Jo-Ann Sheldon: Administator as two paid contractors. This team is keeping the operations of the organisation on track. Sue and Mark have resigned as of 31st May 2018. Daragh has resigned as of 24th May 2018.

The PC Meeting of 22nd April 2018 discussed the elections process and provided their input. Their request was to ensure that the elections cycle was completed by August 2018 (mid-summer for Northern Hemisphere countries). Further detail on the elections cycle will be communicated soon (including the names and details of both the DAMA and external members of the elections committee). The Past President will assume the interim role of President after the final two board members step down and will appoint two additional interim officers to remain compliant with Washington State Law.

We look forward to continuing our communications with you and having your help to move forward and ensure that DAMA’s future remains bright. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions or comments on the above - you can reach us at info@dama.org, president@dama.org, operations@dama.org, finance@dama.org, peg@dama.org or pastpresident@dama.org

    Kind regards and thank you,
Sue Geuens, Mark Humphries, Peter Aiken

DAMA International Board Update see more

Dear DAMA Chapter Presidents, Chapter Officers and Members,

Last month's unexpected board resignations announcement has caught our community by surprise.

I have consulted with our long time legal council Larry Leonardson, and in accordance with my fiduciary responsibility to DAMA International, I have:

    1. Assumed the position of DAMA-I President in order to run the elections process.

    2. Appointed Susan Earley as VP Finances

    3. Appointed Loretta Smith as VP Operations

Additionally, the Board elected Karen Lopez to Lifetime Advisor.

These appointments are effective as of June 1 2018, and will be in place to keep the organization running while an election is held and a newly elected Board is installed in July 2018. These individuals will be supported by our existing CDMP Fellows: Chris Bradley, Deborah Henderson, and Cathy Nolan. They will also be supported by a few select committees to be formed of the many members and chapter officers who have offered to assist in the transition.

I am grateful that the Board continued to function as volunteers in an operational capacity to help the transition process. I owe a debit of gratitude to the outgoing Board and have personally thanked them for their many years of service to our organization.

Please also note that other options had been considered, such as holding a short term election for transitional board directors. This was discussed Thursday, April 26 with numerous chapter presidents and other participants. The participants in this discussion concurred that the option to appoint the above 3 board director positions was the most appropriate choice, and therefore supported this appointment decision as well as a decision to proceed as per the DAMA I election plan formalized with the participation of four Outgoing Board/Chapter Presidents on 22 April 18.
I want to thank everyone who has reached out to me and others and offered to assist. There is a need and I will be getting back to you while the election progresses. There is work to do to get our organization back on track, but we are committed to doing this openly and deliberately. Our first goal is initiating the elections process and we are working on this diligently and methodically. Please stay tuned for more upcoming developments.

    Peter Aiken

    President, DAMA-International

Much progress is being made on the CDMP examinations. see more

A DAMA-International Board of Directors meeting was held on February 2, 2019 from 11am-12:15 Eastern Time. Several items should be of interest to chapter presidents.

    1. CDMP: Much progress is being made on the CDMP examinations. We are on track to provide exams at EDW in Boston for both the core exam and at least 2 specialty exams. Please refer to the EDW agenda for Exam Preparation session and exam testing times. Testing and real-world exam sessions are scheduled for those chapters that had to reschedule their exams. The exams are based on the DMBOK-2.

    2. Per the DAMA-I By-Laws, there were 3 changes to the Board of Directors approved as follows below. There was a mutual decision to reassign board members to better align them with their strengths. As a result both Jerrod Young and Lowell Fryman stepped down from their elected positions then were appointed to their new roles through motions that were approved unanimously by the board.

      • Eva Smith was appointed Governance and Ethics Officer, replacing Karen Lopez who held that position on a temporary basis. Karen will remain on the BOD as an Advisor.

      • Lowell Fryman was appointed to be VP of Communications and Marketing. Lowell had held the role of VP Online Services.

      • Jerrod Young was appointed to VP of Online Services. Jerrod had held the role of VP Communications and Marketing. Note: Both Lowell and Jerrod, in conjunction with the DAMA-I President and consultation with the BOD and Advisors decided to swap roles in the best interest of DAMA-I.

    3. The Awards Committee reported on the recommendations for the DAMA-I 2019 Data Management Awards to be featured at EDW. The Board of Directors accepted the committee’s recommendations and will announce the names at Enterprise Data World.
