2024 Candidate for VP Marketing

Ronald Baan

Ronald is a dynamic and well-connected member of the global data community, with extensive networks both within the Netherlands and internationally. Since the early 1990s, Ronald has been deeply involved in document management, knowledge management, and data management. He is thrilled to be living in an era where these three disciplines are converging, powered by cutting-edge use cases and technology. Today, the importance of effective data management is more prominent than ever, and Ronald is passionate about educating others on both the opportunities and risks associated with data usage.

Three years ago, Ronald took on the role of President of DAMA Netherlands, where he played a pivotal role in expanding and energizing the network of data management professionals across the country. His leadership has significantly accelerated the growth and engagement of the community.

Throughout his extensive consulting career, including running his successful firm, Ronald has worked with major international corporations and various levels of government. He understands that each organization is unique and at a distinct stage in its development. Providing the right advice at the right moment is crucial, and Ronald found that DAMA’s DMBoK offers precisely that. While the DMBoK does not dictate specific actions, it provides a comprehensive framework that allows organizations to determine the best steps to enhance their data management practices.

Nearly two years ago, after many years as a data architect and senior data officer, Ronald transitioned from consultancy to focus full-time on training and mentoring in data management, using the DAMA DMBoK as his foundation. His passion for data, documents, and knowledge now fuels his work as an educator. Ronald teaches students, civil servants, and corporate data management professionals across Europe, the USA, and the Middle East. He is continually innovating in his teaching methods, utilizing classroom training, quizzes, assignments, online courses, on-demand videos, and hybrid models. His training programs are grounded in real-world case studies from his clients.

Recognizing the importance of engaging business users and senior management in data management, Ronald actively conducts workshops tailored to these audiences. These workshops, also based on the DAMA DMBoK, are designed to be practical and relevant to the participants’ specific processes and objectives. On LinkedIn, Ronald maintains an active network of over 24,000 followers, where he shares insights on data management in both Dutch and English.

In addition to his ongoing contributions, Ronald has applied to join the editorial board of DAMA-I for the development of DMBoK 3 and has been involved in the committee for the new bylaws. He is eager to bring his expertise and enthusiasm to the role of VP Marketing for DAMA-I.
