From Messy Data to Scalable Analytics: DAMA Toronto’s Data Foundations Workshop

DAMA Toronto is hosting a special, in-person, all-day workshop and networking event focused on the core building blocks of modern data foundations.

The workshop will explore data architecture, modelling, shared definitions, and AI-ready design. It is intended for people who work with data, rely on data, or are responsible for data outcomes.

Why Attend?

Many organizations do not struggle because they lack data. They struggle because they cannot trust it.

One dashboard may show that revenue is increasing while another shows that it is decreasing. Teams spend time debating numbers instead of making decisions. Reports break when systems change, and AI tools produce answers that people may not feel confident using.

This workshop will explain why these problems occur and how modern organizations can design stronger data foundations. Participants will see practical examples of how inconsistent definitions, poorly designed reporting layers, and missing shared context can lead to confusion, rework, and stalled initiatives.

By the end of the workshop, participants will better understand how data can be structured so that numbers have consistent meanings, reports can be created without repeatedly starting from scratch, and analytics and AI can be added as an organization grows.

Workshop Topics

Modern Data Architecture Fundamentals with Dil Mustafa

The Data Gold Layer Fundamentals and How to Compose It with Suraj Lamgaday

Data Semantic and Self-Service Design with Miles Garvey

Semantic Design Workshop

Data Design and ROI for AI Understanding with Kyle Nesbit

The workshop will also include structured networking opportunities, coffee on arrival, and a light lunch.

This event is supported by the Malloy open-source project and its contributors, as well as the Credible data engine.
