IPMs and Member Chapters in good standing as of July 1, 2025.
If you are eligible to vote as an IPM or you are the authorized representative of a Member Chapter, you may submit nominations via the online nomination form (available July 8, 2025).
Yes, but in accordance with the Code of Conduct for Candidates.
Petitions must be submitted in writing and reviewed by the Governance & Nominations Committee.
1. Strategic Oversight
- Participate in developing and approving the strategic plan and ensuring that programs and initiatives align with the mission and vision of DAMA International.
- Monitor progress against strategic objectives and review key performance indicators.
- Engage in risk identification and mitigation at the governance level.
2. Governance and Fiduciary Duty
- Uphold DAMA International’s bylaws, policies, and ethical standards.
- Ensure financial health by approving budgets, reviewing financial statements, and safeguarding organizational assets.
- Support compliance with legal and regulatory obligations.
3. Board and Committee Participation
- Attend monthly board meetings (typically virtual), actively contribute to discussions, and prepare in advance by reviewing board materials.
- Serve on at least one standing or ad hoc committee, task force, or working group, such as:
- Audit & Finance Committee
- Governance & Nominations Committee
- Membership & External Relations Committee
- Program & Internal Operations Committee
- Provide strategic input and guidance to committees without becoming involved in operations.
4. Ambassadorship and External Engagement
- Represent DAMA International to the broader professional community, acting as a champion for the organization.
- Leverage your personal and professional networks to expand DAMA's influence and build strategic partnerships.
- Help with recruitment of new members, chapter engagement, or corporate sponsorship, as appropriate.
5. Leadership and Development
- Stay informed about trends in data management and nonprofit governance.
- Participate in board training and development activities.
- Engage in regular self-assessment and board performance evaluation processes.
6. Support for Organizational Initiatives
- Provide strategic input into key projects such as:
- The evolution of the DMBOK
- CDMP certification strategy
- Chapter growth and affiliation
- Global advocacy and outreach

The annual election is held to select members for DAMA International’s Board of Directors. This ensures fresh leadership, diverse perspectives, and alignment with the organization’s evolving strategic direction.
The election process is guided by DAMA’s bylaws and overseen by the independent Governance and Nominations Committee. Key milestones and decisions are publicly posted, and eligible members participate in voting.
The Committee is responsible for identifying qualified candidates, vetting nominations, managing the petition process, and upholding the integrity and fairness of the election process.
Committee members are appointed by the Board and typically include a mix of current and past board members, chapter representatives, and experienced DAMA leaders. Their selection is based on expertise, impartiality, and regional diversity.
Key dates, including the opening and closing of nominations, petition deadlines, and the voting period, are published annually on the DAMA website’s election page.
Voting dates are determined by the Governance and Nominations Committee and announced in advance. Typically, voting is open for a two-week period.
Candidates must be Individual Professional Members in good standing or nominated by an eligible DAMA Chapter. Specific criteria, such as professional experience and ethical standing, apply.
Only Individual Professional Members in good standing as of the eligibility cutoff date may vote. Chapter representatives may vote on behalf of their chapters, depending on chapter eligibility.
Chapters must be in good standing and compliant with the Affiliation Agreement. A list of eligible chapters is published on the election page.
Nomination forms are available on the DAMA website during the nomination period. They typically require a statement of motivation, a resume or bio, and endorsements from eligible members or chapters.
The Governance and Nominations Committee assesses each nomination based on established criteria, including experience, contributions to the profession, and alignment with DAMA’s mission.
Candidates not approved by the Committee may still appear on the ballot by submitting a petition with the required number of valid member signatures within the specified deadline.
All participants must adhere to DAMA’s Code of Conduct, which emphasizes professionalism, integrity, and respect for the election process.
Violations may lead to disqualification of a candidate or removal of voting privileges. The Governance and Nominations Committee investigates and enforces violations.
Yes. Candidate profiles, including bios and motivation statements, are posted on the DAMA website prior to the opening of voting to help members make informed decisions.
Candidate profiles are published online and shared via DAMA’s member communications. Townhall sessions also provide direct engagement opportunities.
Townhalls are scheduled during the election period and announced on the website and via email. Sessions are typically held virtually.
While not mandatory, candidates are strongly encouraged to participate in townhalls to engage with voters and present their vision.
All official policies and procedures related to nominations, eligibility, petitions, and voting are posted on the DAMA website.
In the event of a tie, runoff procedures or a Board vote may apply, as outlined in DAMA’s bylaws. Disputes are reviewed by the Governance and Nominations Committee.
Results are posted on the DAMA website and shared with members via email shortly after the election closes and all votes are verified.
Voting is confidential, and detailed results are not publicly disclosed beyond overall vote counts per candidate.
